Dear Fifth Grade Families,
Welcome to fifth grade! This is a fresh start to a new year, new grade, and new building. We will learn one bite at a time and covering a wide range of topics. Along the way I am sure we will make mistakes, but we will learn from each other’s mistakes. Then we will celebrate our accomplishments! I am excited to be working with your students and anticipate a fun and successful year.
As long as students work hard during the day, their homework will be at a minimum; however, I do expect students to read 20-30 minutes each night. Any other homework will be unfinished work from the school day or studying for tests and quizzes. On Fridays I do not assign homework because I feel weekends are for family time. The only exception would be if we were working on a project.
We have a planner that will be used each day and needs to be initialed nightly by a parent or adult in charge. This will help with organization and responsibility, eliminating late work, and letting you know the things we’re learning in class.
In my class, I expect students to be respectful and responsible, and to do what’s right. This means completing assignments and treating others the way they would want to be treated.
In order for us to stay in touch, I highly recommend you create a Teacherease account. If you already have one, great! If not, a simple click on our District Home page will get you started. Teacherease is a great way for you to monitor your student’s progress and stay in touch with me. I update grades regularly, so you can easily track homework and test scores, as well as be aware of late and missing work. Along with grades, I also use Teacherease to send out messages.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please call me at school at 467-4692 ext. 2208, email me at [email protected] or “drop” me a note in your student’s planner.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Miller
